Our first ad is out there: It’s Only Fair

Here’s a sneak preview of our first ad, which will be going up on network TV, targeted cable, and online on Thursday. It lays responsibility for the pension mess on the governor and Legislature, and warns that failure to fund the system could cause it to collapse and plunge educators into poverty. We have other ads ready to go once the Supreme Court rules, which is rumored to be any day now.

This is our fight. It’s about your future.

Sometimes it’s challenging to motivate members to join the fight to fund the pension. Here’s adirect video message from Wendell to share with your members to remind them: This is our fight. It’s about all of our futures. And it’s up to every one of us to win it.

Lobby your legislators

Don your business attire, bring photo ID and join your fellow members in Trenton as we lobby legislators for full pension funding on June 11, 25 and 29. Go here for all the details on where to park, what to expect, and whom to RSVP. Can’t make those dates? Check this events calendarfor when NJEA members are meeting legislators in their home offices.

What do I say when pensions come up at my barbecue?

Memorial Day is coming and with it gatherings of family and friends. With our first ad out, you might get a few questions. Download When They Say… You Say to arm yourself with the facts.

Sen. Allen commits to funding the pension

Members in Burlington County had over 100 members rally outside Republican Sen. Diane Allen’s office. At a meeting organized by the NJEA Government Relations Division and UniServ Region 5, members met with Sen. Allen. The result? A commitment from the senator to oppose any budget that does not include the five-sevenths pension payment required by Chapter 78. Collective action in action!

Thank you, Gov. Christie?????

In response to Gov. Christie’s ridiculous claim that public employees should send him a thank you note for the damage he’s doing to our pensions, the Hammonton Education Association took him at his word. Watch this video created by HEA to show the guv their “thanks.” #sarcasm @HEASecretary

Did you see this?

Watch this video montage, put together by Stafford Twp. Education Association member Michael Dunlea. He gathered as many images from Facebook as he could of NJEA members wearing black on payday and demanding that legislators enforce the law they passed and fund the pension. #fundnjpension

Have a pension organizing story to tell?

Send it to us along with a photo at PensionAction@njea.org. Put “Pension Organizing Story” in the subject line and we’ll share it on social media and/or in future editions of this update.
